I am an indie shop now but was a dealer Saab master tech since 1990. Went to Sweden in 1998 as one of the top 4 master techs. At that time Saab was using Waxstat which would stick open at approx 60K. There were no p0116 codes then so very few were changed. I made them part of 60k maintenance and were changing a lot under warranty. Told the engineers in Sweden and the change was made to Motorad. Since then have changed about 50 using Whaler at varying mileages, all p0116. Twice the replacement has come back with the same code and a second t/stat has been needed. Conclusion, none are perfect, Motorad and Whaler seem OK and much better than Waxstat, Incidently I change V6 t/stats at 120k because I have had 2 fail closed with subsequent engine O/heating.
