I have been a member on this site since 05, and there are several reasons I wouldn't even consider a v6 9-5.
Cost of parts are higher
Availability of engine parts is lower
Its harder to work on (less room around it)
It has less power than even an arc 4cyl.
and it if hasn't been properly maintained, I.E. the timing belt, you could have major issues on your hands.
I've owned four 4cyl 9-5's and engine wise, they have all been flawless. two of which have been the post -2006 refresh. and I would highly recommend going to as new as you can afford. You typically get lower mileage cars, you often get better maintained cars, and cars that are just overall less worn out.
As far as a wagon, I've owned a 9-3 wagon and currently a 9-5 wagon. If you have to haul a bunch of stuff, totally worth it. I have 3 kids. Kids come with crap. I can fit two strollers, and enough junk for a 2 night camping trip in the back of my SC without issue. Same goes for long trips to utah from AZ. Easily fit enough stuff back there. and its no bigger than a sedan.
