2000 9-3 SE, 5 spd. with HOT variant. I had a Genuine Saab rear swaybar, steering rack and strut tower braces and poly control arm busihings, probably 500-600 bucks for all, but very easy to install. This made a huge difference in handling with out making the car harsh. Way better for city driving than my 2004 9-5 Aero and it could haul more stuff with the hatch and huge trunk. I really like the 2.0 engine better than the 2.3, smoother and not as harsh. The 9-5 Aero is a great highway car though and has a better back seat with more room for adults. Probably hard to find a good OG 9-3 anymore. So it depends on what your needs are.
Worst thing about 9-5 is the suspension and motor mounts have a short lifespan.
Volvos have severe depreciation too like Saab where I live, we scored a 2010 S80 a couple of years ago for a great price. It has been an excellent car with seats even better than my Aero, with the 3.2T6, it does not shake at an idle like the 2.3 Aero, and does not sound so harsh under acceleration. Rides way better than my Aero too, probably a little soft on the handling side. Same gas mileage as my Aero 22.5 in town, 30 Hwy. Nice interior layout without a million stupid buttons. Wife likes it better than the A4's and A6 we had.
Newer S60s are very nice to drive and are fun like my old c900 SPG. Small back seat and trunk killed that option.
