A few things... the LPT 6 is a belt. Though some here like it, I would avoid it simply because there are fewer on the road so parts cost may become an issue down the road. My Saab indy says to avoid them also (already for repair cost reasons I believe).
Sludge... if full synthetic oil changes at or below the mileage spec (better to do <5k) don't happen, then they are still potentially a sludge risk... but the risk is much lower than for a pre-2004 car that did not get pcv#6 early in life, so I wouldn't worry too much. Regardless, history is valuable on these cars. Or just get a really good price and then it doesn't matter so much.
The 9-5 handling is actually pretty good. Waaaaay better than the 9-3 hatchback. It is a bigger car, and a bigger car than the c900. In reality, a well maintained 9-5 and especially an Aero handles much better than a c900 (I drive them back to back regularly)... it is just that the c900 *feels* faster because it is more direct. There is actually more body roll through turns but not bad of course (though I'm not comparing to a lowered tuned SPG, and the front suspension of both my c900s is original, but miles are low - one is only 100k, the other 150k). So the 9-5 feels smooth and boring going around a cloverleaf whereas the c900 feels fun (you feel every pebble). c900 is like driving a go kart. can't wipe the smile off my face!
The big thing with the 9-5 is the suspension gets worn down easily, especially when loaded. Our 2004 arc felt like a boat pretty much as soon as we bought it at 80k. It would wallow over every bump. Replacing the shocks with Konis on all 4 corners and putting on better tires made a huge difference! I really need to get a set of Koni reds for my nicer c900...
