I faced he same dilemma on my 2001 Aero. I decided to rebuild.
I sent the block and head to a good machine shop and had them redo both. The cost was not very reasonable.
Wossner forged pistons were my choice. Very good forged pistons and the price is less than OEM.
I had the crank and flywheel balanced, new bearings, and the balance shafts removed.
The completely redid the head as well with some new valves and guides and a good valve job.
I did all the parts hunting and purchasing. I have 40,000 miles on this new engine and love it. I know I have a powerplant that is BETTER than new and not just an old motor that I hope was well cared for wherever it came from.
