2002 and later gets you the major model update with the better suspension and 5 speed auto trans with sport shifting. Agree with others. Sludge is something to be aware of on the earlier years, but must of those are off the road by now, I'd wager. If you find one under 100k, be cautious, but odds of sludge are low, especially if it's had the pcv update and documented oil changes. Post 05 saw the major decontenting of the interior. Some people like it, others don't mind it. To me, it lost the Saab character that made it unique. for the older ones, you'll need to decide if you want an Aero. For me, I'll take the extra power and tougher turbo any day of the week, but the suspension is stiff for bad Colorado roads, and the seats kill my broad shoulders. You might be able to find an 04 or 05 Arc that is basically a Linear with the better turbo. They are hard to find. I have an 02 and an 03 Linear now, one with a rebuilt turbo and high oil consumption, and the other about due. If you can find it, these cars have a really sweet shifting manual transmission. Good luck!
