Key to Long Paint Life is Controlling UV Exposure Posted by DnstrDan [Email] (#1361) [Profile/Gallery] (more from DnstrDan) on Mon, 10 Apr 2017 06:06:58 In Reply to: Re: Aha! Thanks for the clarification, Boris Bubbanov. My '04 Aero has the Laser Red finish; aside from some stone chips on the hood the paint is in really great shape. I was fortunate in finding the car in Oregon a few years ago where the sun doesn't beat down too hard. I keep it garaged day and night.
My '99 SE, on the other hand, has the Seafoam Green paint and a bad case of clear coat peeling on the roof and rear trunk lid. I blame that squarely upon parking the car outside for six years in the merciless Southern California sunshine. The complementary deterioration of rubber parts is also attributable to ozone exposure. Not sure what mechanism causes the plastic parts to crack and craze over time.
I wonder whether anyone on this board has ever sprung for a total respray with Dupont Imron paint?
