Most intriguing! In the interim I dug out my virtual machine that has my WIS and looked things up. One difference is that I have a 2006. My WIS indicates the following:

"The fan is supplied with +30 from fuse 22. The control module regulates the fan control unit, which supplies the fan motor on the ground side. The fan control unit is mounted on the fresh air filter cover.

The fan control unit is supplied with B+ from K2 on pin 20 on the ACC unit and power grounded from grounding point G41P. The ground lead is also reference ground from K1 pin 1 on the ACC unit. The fan control unit is controlled by an analog voltage of 0-5V from K1 pin 13 on the ACC unit. The fan current increases as control voltage increases."

From looking at the wiring diagram in there, G41P is behind the radio on the kneewall.

I wonder why they would change that between 2006 and 2007?

Oh, here's this stuff on the online WIS:

and the ground G41P
