The ball joints are plastic. They wear and come off. The new stock one is still plastic. The IG3tech rebuild will last forever and give your great precision.
After 2004 they changed the design and they are steel ball joint outers.
You do have to send in your part to be rebuilt, but the turn around in one day 2 at most. This is a great rebuild if I do say so myself. I have one is my car with the genuinesaab.com shifter.
Full disclosure, I am IG3tech and have developed this precise shifter mechanism.
