I guess the gremlin was being particularly spiteful the other day. After cleaning the Maxi-fuses the reverse lights operated normally. When I went to use the car today the problem was back. After more work with an ohmmeter I have to conclude that the ignition switch is the culprit. If I put a voltmeter across the switch I read 12 volts when trying to pull any kind of power through it. There is no voltage drop across the switch if I remove the reverse light bulbs and select reverse.
I also bypassed the switch using a 10 amp ammeter and took power right from the battery positive to the non bus side of fuse #2. When I selected reverse the lights operate and the current draw is just over 3 amps, about what I'd expect. So how big of a PITA is it to change the switch? And would you use a switch out of a parts car or purchase a new one?
