I had Blizzaks on my GTI many years ago and thought they were great then, so I've kept my eye out for a cheap set to try again. The link you posted is interesting, here is the Tire Rack test info: https://www.tirerack.com/tires/tests/testDisplay.jsp?ttid=193 . Wet handling/braking is always a concern of mine for any tire I buy, so hopefully these are ok.

It does seem like either the WS80 or Xice3 would be a good choice. I would love to try some Nokians, maybe I'll get those for my next car, whenever that is. The Generals have actually been great and I wouldn't hesitate to buy them again. I just couldn't pass up the price on the Blizzaks.

My only concern with them is the size. My Generals were 205/55R16 and the Blizzaks are a bit taller. Propping them up next to the factory 17s they seem very close to the fender. Hopefully it's just an illusion and they'll be fine on the car. Seems 215/55R16 is the usual size so I'm sure it'll be ok.
