I think it is getting harder to maintain these cars but without a Tech II, and they pay for themselves in no time at all. For example, a Tech II would tell you what is going on with the engine temperature. The temp sensor is probably still working as the gauge is controlled by the computer. You could see the number of misfires by cylinder to determine the working condition of the IDMs which is a lot cheaper than just replacing them even though they may still be good. And the price of a Tech II won’t buy you many hours if you take the car to a professional. So we have to decide whether we wan’t to buy a Tech II to do our own diagnosis or pay a professional. Otherwise we’re guessing and throwing expensive parts at our problems.
