The other respondents provided good information on the subframe bushing diagnosis. I followed the same procedures to identify the subframe bushing issues on my 2004 with 130K miles. With all due respect, I can't see how a competent saab mechanic could say 'they are fine'...
At 140K+ miles, they are definitely shot.
FWIW, I replaced all the front and mid bushings with the 2006 MY bushings as suggested by another poster. They worked great. IMO, this is a big job and is integral to the handling of the car. Don't go cheap. good luck.
