I've seen a lot of discussion on the board over the last two years that I've owned my 9-5 related to suspension and subframe bushings and mileage is always mentioned as a factor. Would anyone have an opinion as to whether the issue with bushings is limited to mileage (wear-and-tear) or whether age (physical deterioration) might also be a factor?
My 2003 9-5 Linear only had 25 K mi when I bought it (now has about 30K) and I have always felt that it's not as 'tight' as I would expect a car with such low miles to be. I recognize that the Linear has more of a 'touring' suspension than the Arc or Aero, and in general, I'm okay with the ride quality being a little on the softer side. The big issues are that when I hit bumps, especially deep ones, it sounds like I've been in a collision and the impact reverberates throughout the cabin. The other issue is that there is definitely some noise in cold weather when the suspension travels. I also feel that it might bottom out frequently, especially on the passenger side front.
The car has been to two different indies since I've owned it and both have told me that there's nothing wrong with the suspension and it drives 'normal' for a 9-5. This is my first drive-able Saab and without a frame of reference, I can't tell what normal is - in fact one thing I was hoping to accomplish at the SOC this year was to get advice from someone who's had suspension work done and see if I could drive the car to compare (and/or have someone drive mine who's used to their own).
This is really the only complaint/disappointment that I have with it and I'm willing to put some time, effort, and money to fix it but I don't want to spend money to fix something only to have there be little or no difference.
