as others have stated.. but just to clarify: most of the erratic heat/ac problems are usually due to either the blend doors jamming, or one of the 3 stepping motors, which control these flaps/blend doors failing. Yes .. there are cabin sensors, and other controls in play.. but I would focus on these first.
From what I recall, 2 flaps are located on the left/drivers side of the lower center console, and one on the passenger side, with each controlled by its own and stepping motor. One of the flaps on the drivers side controls the drivers side vents, while the flap/blend door on the passenger side controls the passenger side vents, along with the rear vents.
The 2nd flap on the drivers side is an air blend door which controls the temperature of all of the air inside the car, and it's stepping motor is located on the passenger side.. near the passenger side stepping motor. So, if all of the vents on both side are experiencing similar temperature problems, it could be related to this particular blend door, either being jammed, having a damaged cam/connecting rod, or the motor itself failing.. You can try manipulating the flap manually from the lever side, or directly manipulating the flap it controls on the drivers side.. to see if that makes a difference to to narrow down the problem...
.... I think that's how the setup works, from what I recall a few years back when I had problem.. Hopefully the others reading this will correct me if I'm wrong..
