Tailpipe Has Lining of Black Soot Posted by FredKolb12 [Email] (#46) [Profile/Gallery] (more from FredKolb12) on Mon, 3 Apr 2023 06:36:09 In Reply to: Re: Saab 9-5 3.0 V6 randomly stalling., FredKolb12 [Profile/Gallery] , Sun, 2 Apr 2023 05:43:30 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
My B308E V6's tailpipe has a light coating of black soot that will come off on my finger. (129,000 miles)
If you have a vacuum leak, it can also cause the engine to stumble. Have you ever replaced your vacuum hoses? If they are the original rubber type, the ends begin to split where they slide onto the engine fittings and can be the source of vacuum loss as well. I've replaced mine twice, first with rubber and then with silicone (4mm id) except for the one on the heater bypass that I'll do if it ever fails again. The hoses just under the hood take the worst heat beating and fail faster and I've seen articles about the small O-ring getting old and leaking at the brake booster fitting on the back of the intake manifold (red and black with plastic hose).
