Ignition lock issues - occasional no start Posted by Saabinista [Email] |
2004 9-5 Aero 5-speed with ~130K miles - I have a similar problem to that described by andym in 2011: Turning the ignition key when in reverse or neutral produces all dashboard lights but often and increasingly does not engage the starter. This failing usually was remedied by slowly but assertively moving the ignition key to compass points (i.e., E, SE, S or E, NE, N) but that remedy works only infrequently now. Yesterday, I kept the key fixed in the "Start" position and slowly moved the shift lever from neutral to reverse and there was a point along that path when the engine started. Once started, it always runs well.
My mechanic replaced the clutch switch , so that shouldn't be the problem. Another member in 2011 noted the NSS switch is unique to automatics, so apparently that's not the problem either.
Instead, this seems to be an electrical contact problem associated with the gearshift lever (under the boot) and/or ignition switch, or both.
Has anyone else had or seen this problem and who can shed light and suggest a fix?
Thanks in advance!
