Someone smarter than I will have to weigh in, but when I was researching mine, I used the diagram linked below:

Based on this, it shows that the TCM for 2002 & 2003 is one part number and 2004-2009 is a different number. That would argue to me that your used 2008 may not be plug and play with your 2003 transmission.

The 55352924 that I purchased (I shopped around for a better price than what’s shown in the link) and had programmed per WIS is working perfectly. EDIT: Goldwing has the 2003 TCM for $325,, FYI.

The P0116 code you cleared is a coolant temp related code, IIRC, and shouldn’t be related to the transmission.

Good luck getting to the bottom of it all.
