I have no experience with the v6 so I can give very little advice. However, I would not necessarily expect a code for a bad CPS. There are numerous threads here re CPS failure and specific things to look for on startup to diagnose. Failure to restart hot though is a common symptom.

I'm pretty surprised you didn't get codes with the bad misfires. When you pull the dic, is there oil again? Fuel system good?
