Rick, I see you're already impressed with the Aero, no surprise there. As others have said, it has to be the best overall value, particularly in terms of interior space and performance, compared to your alternatives. I also have two kids and dithered over a BMW 3 for ages - so glad I didn't get one now! (I have a 2000 9-5 Aero wagon.)

You're obviously concerned about reliability as you're planning to keep it for a few years. You know how, when you get a new car you suddenly begin to notice all the others on the road? Well I notice a heck of a lot of old Saabs these days, still going strong in spite of the stigma of apparent unreliability that appears to have attached itself to Saab. Sure the new 9-5 hasn't been around for long enough to get any long-term reports, but every review of this car I read sings its praises. Clearly owners on this board love them despite the occasional teething problem. But then no car car is without problems (see other manufacturers boards...).

I would not have entertained a Saab in past. But I was pursuaded to try the 9-5 and was astonished. But I still wouldn't entertain a 9-3. I had a 9-3 loan car whilst my park assist was being fixed and found it just awful by comparison - precisely the kind of vehicle for which I personally have always avoided Saab. It's still hard to believe they come from the same stable, I think. Just my opinion.

The 9-5, however, has me converted. My only real problem is that I'm soon to receive a company car and have to sell my 2000 Aero already. I'll miss this car, that's for sure.

So which car for you? Drive them all as much as you can and make your comparisons. Buy the one that fits your gut feeling. And make sure your dealer comes recommended, whatever you buy - poor dealers are often the cause of more distress than problems with the cars theselves.

Good luck and let us know how you get on.

Jonah
