Familiar with three of the cars you're contemplating -- 528 (not the 530), having owned one, the 9-5 (current) and the Passat (belongs to a family member). I say this with trepidation due to this board, but my 528 was simply rock solid. No rattles, good performance, good mileage and a beauty of a drive. The 530 should be that as well. But I wanted more horsepower and the 540 (wanted a wagon) was way too costly, plus no 5 spd. in the 8 cylinder. And the sport package. Costs even more. Enter Saab. Very happy with my Aero, but the build quality (body integrity, fit and finish) is not BMW quality. However, neither is the price. So a happy compromise. I've got 250 hp and great handling and a unique car on the road. The Passat, to me, is a disappointment. Just a bit bland in many departments -- engine (the V6), interior appointments, lots of chrome, etc. Enter the Arc into this discussion. The 9-5 is simply a unique automobile with some nice design features and a bit of oddity thrown in. And it's relatively cheap in this league. Not such a bad dossier. I don't think you'll be disappointed with it. Keep us posted.
