Saabaru - from the company that gave you the cimarron

There is a report on 4car that the GM bosses searching for a solution to saab losses are considering a saab version of the subaru imprezza, creating a saab 9-1. Aparently this would be a rush job that makes the NG900 look like a bespoke development in comparison. Basically a saab style front end (fenders, hood, bumpers), but no other sheet metal changes, interior largely the same, even down to steering column ignition placement.
Subaru boxer engines and awd remain in place, built in japan.
While the imprezza is a first class basis for platform engineering, unlike the old opel vectra, the saab brand values are not going to be well reflected by a rush job thats transparently obvious - plus I dont see where it fits? assuming turbocharging is a minimum requirement(surely!), a wrx is 23k, while a 9-3ss starts at 25k with comparable equipment (apart from awd). Improve the warranty and add a free service package and the imprezza is looking rather expensive for a 9-1 model.
