Indeed that is strange.
Myself took a test drive 95 ARC in fall 03 loved it decided to wait till 04 arrives and ... bummer:

1. V6 is no more.
2. "optional for 04" list in 04 that I would like to have:
AUTO trans (+1,337)
Premium Sound part of package( +1,346)
Xenons (+500)

And to top it- I live in NY - so therefore MUST pay tax on WHOLE price of car. Even though I wanted to lease_like for 48 mnth (smart buy).

So at the end option I had - about 3,000 down and payments is like $430/500 (without/with options)

No sureprise, I walked away and for about same down payment currently leasing $390 for 04 Acura TL.

Here is my thought - I understand that those payment derectly related to financal projection on how much this car would cost after 4 year.
So my guess is that SAAB ***NOT*** unable to hold value, but rather initially has inflated price. If car looses 60% of MSRP value in 4 years -that means something. Therefore SAAB still in denial - playing with those discounts - to keep their MSRP above 40K. It should be priced 8-10K cheaper.
