I don't use them all the time, but are nice to have when wanting to down-shift or just to keep busy on a boring drive. One thing I don't like is that if you stomp the peddle in 1st, the tranny will not respond to an upshift unless the rpms are high enough. In fully automatic mode, you will likely get better gas mileage. Also, the paddles can't shift as fast as the a/t can, so performance is better in auto mode.
