The IIHS rams all the cars the same way, but they fail to take into account Braking distance / handling / acceleration issues / g-force skid tests etc... There are plenty of tin cans on the road that have well designed crumple zones, but I'll take a car in which I always feel in control. And in the 9-5 that is the case.
Sure, Hondas get 5 star crash ratings all the time, but put a Civic in a snowstorm with a 16 year old driver, and you'll find out how crashworthy it is.
Safety ratings are irrelevant if you don't crash.
