I have a 2003 Aero with 26K miles on it, 5-spd. I live in permanent car fever and right now I have a yearning for a Cooper S, but I'll keep the Saab. In general:

It's been almost trouble free. The check engine light comes on 4-5 times a year but there's never anything wrong. All major systems have been flawless.

The 2.3 has a rough note on acceleration and isn't completely smooth at idle, but it's very smooth on the highway. This is a spectacular long-distance car. It's quiet, smooth, endlessly powerful, great seats and great mileage. You arrive after a 200-300 mile trip feeling like you done nothing -- just an easy drive.

It's a bit front-heavy for real backroad carving, but still it sticks very well. The other important thing if you live in the dark, cold north is that this is a near-perfect bad-weather car. It should be, coming from Sweden. The heater is great, traction control, great wipers, with Nokians great traction.

The 2004s are an amazing bargain right now. Forget about whether there will be a redesign. The current car is well sorted out and a great value for the discounted price. You'll live with a rough idle but everything else makes is a perfect car for a long-driving salesman.
