Yeah I'm on my 4th 78 turbo, 86 900S, 97 900S, and now 2000 9-5. Owned a 92 Maxima replaced with a 2000 also, hated the 2000 - bought it in 99 traded it for the 2000 when the deals came out that summer. The 78 and 86 were maintenance disasters but the 97 and now my 2000 are much better qualtiy (thank you GM)
I wouldn't wait till next year just for the Aero, the car is too awesome to wait. I am not sure but I was just shopping as my 2000 came off lease but (and others can provide more detail) the only Difference in the Aero now is the ground effects, suspension and interior chrome not wood- as well as the 17's but you can get those as a replacement on the arc for like $900. You can also get Carbon Fiber installed for 300 - sweet. ( you can always upgrade the suspension after the fact at less than the differnce in price.) and add the bridge spoler and front dam to have a really nice not Aero.
The deals are incredible, 9000 under list (4500 under invoice ) With the lease it was even better .9% financing too - how can you beat that. I would do the lease and buy the car if I went over on miles. ( 14K buyout for a 3 yr old car that I owned, you'll never get a better deal than that- I have all the high school kids in the neighborhood lined up for mine.
Try carsdirect.com for the car. I bought mine there when my dealer who I bought 2 cars from, said they looked and none were avaialable with the 5 spd my wife wanted. It was late in the model year (like now) and they just wanted to unload thier inventory and were unwilling to take another car without trading one out to another dealer. Cars direct will send you to a dealer (wherever ) to get the car _ I went to New York from CT and they were just unwrapping it form the plastic ( it had 7 miles)
Long story I know but now tha my car is off lease I upgraded to BSR Stage III 270 HP. ( Its like having a new car) And I'll wait three ore years to get a 2003 used.
