I was considering this question yesterday, actually. I believe that if you drive a Saab, you drive it for a reason. There is a huge difference between people who drive cars to get from point A to point B, and those people who like to have fun DRIVING from point A to B. A Saab is a driver's car. It's not for someone who doesn't know jack about cars; it's not for someone who only uses a car for transportation; and it's not for someone who doesn't know how to drive properly. Sure, you need to pay more attention to a Saab than some other cars out there. My gf has a 1996 Ford Contour, and the thing has more problems at 65,000 than my 1988 Saab 900T has at 185,000. My car has 120,000 more miles on it! Sure, mine has some squeaks, but it's a convertible. My car feels more safe on the highway than hers, gets the same gas mileage, and is a helluva lot faster. Bear in mind that most of the C900s that we are talking about are 10-20 years old! My car is in for service right now (those ubiquitous random constant problems) and I'll probably spend about $600 when all is said and done, but I haven't spent a penny on mechanical problems since an all-around brake job last November. I know Saabs tend to have problems, but if you don't like it, nobody is holding a gun to your head telling you to keep driving them. If you feel like you car is a money pit, or you feel like the cost is outweighing the benefit, sell your car! It's not rocket science. There are plenty of people out there who will buy the car and ressurect it - that right there should tell you something. No car holds tremendous resale value after 10 years - so don't complain that Saabs don't hold value. So, keep Saabing - or don't.
