Jackpot, who'd a thunk I'd get a response at 3 a.m.
I did have an 86 900S with an automatic, the trans worked fine for what it was, but I hated what it was (3 speed automatic); it used way more gas than my 85 SPG, and was noisy at highway speed. I have to say the car itself was fairly low-drama for a Saab, unlike my SPG, which ate sunroof and window motors for lunch. I guess I'd prefer, in general, a Saab with the fewest problems or potential for problems (maybe I should look for a base 900 5 speed?). This car will for the most part be an errand runner, with an occasional 200 mile trip to see parents, so luxury is not so important.
Perhaps I should try for slightly newer (just saw an 88 900t 5spd come up today, there's also a 91 9000S 5 spd near me). I don't think this makes as much difference as condition and care, though, esp with Saabs.
I will take this question to the 9000 board as well. Thanx again.
