I think the point here is not whether or not the current price is fair, but more so being quoted one price and then being charged another.

I assume the shop did not give you a quote in writing, and by doing a quick search on google, i came up with this (assumed you were in Florida as per your name):

From what i can tell (i'm no legal expert) the shop is required by law to have you intial 1 of 3 things, 1) a written estimate, 2) you agreeing to work up to a certain amount, 3) waiving your right to an estimate.

Call the consumer agency that handles these things and explain your situation (i think it's on the website), if you are in the right, call the shop and tell them what the law is and who you spoke to. I'm certain you'll get your car back for the $600 rate you were quoted.
