I'm a dealer specializing imported cars under 5K. Considering that even the newest classic 900's are 11 years old and usually have at least 100,000 miles, you should be prepared to have to deal with some "issues" on any car you buy. If it's any consolation, it's not unusual for even Hondas, Toyotas and Subarus of simular year/mileages to have prety much the same problems. The real key is how cars are driven and cared for, Saabs are high performance cars (at least the turbos) and are much more likely to be driven "with vigor" and it does take a toll. Buy the best car you can afford, have it checked out by a mechanic familiar with the breed, and figure you may need to put a few bucks in it at first. Follow some of the advise in the other posts, drive it gently and you'll find owning a Saab a delightful experience.
