Not quite at the level you're talking about. I did run my own used car dealership and specialized used European cars. I tried a lot of different levels of cars ranging from a new M3 convertible to dirt cheap. I bought every Saab I could find along with Volvos MB MBW VW etc. What I finally settled on was cars under 5K. I only bought cars I'd want to own myself and tried to stay under 150,000. I fixed them up as nice as I possibly could within the constraints of market value. The biggest problem was finding cars that were good or could be made good. The second biggest problem was getting repairs done. In spite of doing as much as possible myself, you can't paid retail rates for repairs and make money on a car. The other aspect was the time it took to get a car to the various places that specialize in what needed doing. Sometimes it would take a month or two to get the car to the body shop, the mufler place, tires etc. Ultimately it was the economy that did me in. I started it 2000 and watched the number of trade-ins available to buy at auction drop to about 10% of the number there were when I started. I threw in the towel about two years ago. To truly remanufactured a car like your're talking about would probably cost more than a new one when you factor all the expenses involved (a building, equipment, inventory, employees, etc) in doing so. I thought a lot about that idea too.
