Trying not to be overly argumentitive, but the reason I mention insurance is that you have guys on here all the time who are bemoaning the fact that their "$6,000 SPG" or similar is getting half that when the insurance company totals it. To think that an insurance company (appraisal or not) would pay off a >$20,000 classic Saab is a little unrealistic. I'd think you'd have a real hard time actually getting sales data (if it even exists) on >$20,000 classic Saabs to present to an insurance company.
I'll be at Carlisle this weekend. With the exception of the GM heritage cars, I would wager that none of the classic Saabs in the field would have a realistic sale value over $15K. Maybe not even over $10K. There will be a bunch of Saabs that have had their fair share of mods and TLC, but as we all know a car's value isn;t the sum total of parts and work.
Sorry, I just really take an interest in the "value" question on these cars. I'm of the opinion that while they are fantastic cars, they just aren't worth that much. I think I can support my opinion based on what sells on this site, fleabay, and elsewhere.
