yes Bondo knows whats the best and why not be a Posted by vvack0matic [Email] (#1443) [Profile/Gallery] (more from vvack0matic) on Sun, 3 Jun 2007 21:56:54 In Reply to: Re: cant call it fiber-glass with only 5% of the stuff, DougM [Profile/Gallery] , Sun, 3 Jun 2007 20:44:58 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
supplier of the stuff it will cost more than putty but if the public want to pay for it why not coner the market.
but this is getting on the corporation side of things
what your looking at is the activator, for the fiberglass mat.
which is 100% fiber glass.
and on the bag of the picture i posted, it says no ware on it
that it is 100% fiberglass, because it dose not need to.
(it is fiberglass)
i had posted a pic. of what to look for in the store.
the can of automotive bondo you have is nothing more than putty. that can be scooped out of the can with a spoon.
and has so much calcium in it i don't know if i should call it bondo or a milk shake. we all know what the calcium is for.
but for the ones that don't, its nothing more than powder that gets mixed with.... what was it 1sec.
15-20% styrene (my activator)
1-5% castor oil derivative
(let me just note that powder is 30% of the can)
just to make a spreadable putty
(normal bondo)
and this is for the cheapest putty bondo one can get
(and your 5% fiberglass bondo)
pay 5 buxs more and they will mill 5% of fiberglass and add it to the mix
and my resin,
i guess that can work both ways seeing your putty can has
15 - 20% of it and dose not tell the properties of styrene
if it did i guess we would get something along these lines
3 cups pine tree sap
9 cups crude oil
12 cups acid-ton
but seeing how bondo dose not want your average public making the stuff for them self, they will just leave it out.
just to add to get 5% milled fiberglass they take it out of my 100% fiberglass mat.
which would not chip with the resin is added to it.
to only reason the putty bondo chips is because of the calcium
and its this calcium that makes bondo crack under heavy vibration
if all the calcium was extracted from the putty all you would have left is my resin and 5% mat.
the reason the calcium is there is to give the resin a 3 hour dry time, and to make it very, very easy to sand.
but adding all that calcium powder dose have its draw backs
and Jonathan is holding it.
if it was 100% fiberglass mat and resin (with out calcium)
Jonathan would never know there was a repair done to the car because the 100% fiberglass mat would never rust or even allow the elements to reach the metal of the car.
all the calcium did was open the door and say come on in and rust the crap out of the metal,
the only reason anyone would use the putty is because of how less the time is to sand and make the repair look good.
to sand the putty smooth as glass would take an hour.
to sand 100% fiberglass would take 2 and a half hours.
only difference is the quality
calling the putty (fiberglass) gives the wrong impression because its nothing more than crappy bondo (putty) trying to be like......
and the only way 100% fiberglass mat. can get on the car is if Jonathan hacks off his right arm and adds it with the cost of someone doing the job for him or if he dose it himself.
the one thing that's funny is its baby simple to do.
and in no way
will the 100% fiberglass allow the raw metal to rust.
nor will the mat, chip
only reason powder putty bondo is so big is because of body shops cramming the crappy stuff down our throat
in no way is the blue stuff fiberglass.
