I am getting ready to replace pinion bearings on my 88 900 5 speed. I did some checking of the stack height measurement before removal and I got a measurement of 7.727". According to the specifications, it is supposed to be between 7.677 - 7.681". It is already beyond that spec and to make matters worse I measured the existing shims and it appears to have a .012 and a .020. These additional shims would put the stack height even farther out of spec. Has anybody had a similair experience with the before replaceing pinion bearing stack height measurement? I admit it is possible that my caliper or my measuring technique may be off. I am using what I have available. Any ideas on this subject or has anyone had a similair experience?
