Hi Charlie, sorry to hear you are having problems. You may have to go to even more trouble and take the alternator out to see what length the bolt is and if it will pass muster. If it is too short (why would that be?) or if the bushings are not properly seated, or if the end of the bolt is buggered up (a technical term) then having the alternator out would allow fixing any of that. If you do decide to go this route let us know and we can tell you about the trickery used to get the bolt and alternator out. Things that could be done at the same time include replacing the voltage regulator (and the brushes that wear out) as a whole, much easier with alternator out. not much more that unscrewing two screws remove and replace and replacing the screws. Also you could replace the belts.
