Yep -- use dishsoap and it'll pop right in. But I don't think that's your problem since you can't install the alternator bushings with the alternator in the car by virtue of how it mounts. Much easier with the alternator mounting bracket out of the car. If you're this far into it, not sure why you need a mechanic - you can prob do it yourself ! (ie you're already in deep :)
Stepping back here a sec... there are 3 bushings involved in the alternator. Two of them you cannot access with the alternator in place. Those are the two in the actual mounting bracket under the alternator. There is one on each side, its a press fit into the mounting bracket. It would NOT be possible to re-insert these bushings with the alternator in the car, as the flared / flanged side of the bushing contacts both sides.
There is another bushing that goes into the mounting arm (the thing that allows you to adjust the tension of the alternator belts. This bushing is sometimes 1 piece, sometimes 2 pieces.
Did you by any chance use urethane (red) bushings? My experience with them for this high heat/high vibration area is that they stink and wear out quickly... Replace with Saab OEM rubber for longest lasting results.
As for the bolt, its either the right bolt or the wrong one... Take some pics and post them and we'll try and to talk you thru it!
