I never said the newer car would be more reliable I said it would BE EASIER TO HAVE IT SERVICED. NG900's/9-3's are much more conventional cars, there's more of them around and more mechanics can/will work on them. And yes we are talking about an 8 year old car verses a 16 year old car because you can BUY THEM FOR ABOUT THE SAME MONEY ($3-5K). New cars and late model used are irrelivent to the conversation as well as the notion of totally rebuilding a C900 (yeah it would be reliable, but who's going to do that--it would cost a small fortune). C900's have a lot of little oddities and I sure wouldn't want to pay a non-C900 mechanic $50-80 an hour to figure them out. If you had a C900 convertible and the top didn't work how many hours would it take a general mechanic to figure out there's fuses under the hood of all places or that the hand brake has to be on? If you had a gas smell inside how many hours would it take to figure out the gas cap was bad (if they ever did) since they show no signs of wear. If they changed the radiator fluid how long before they figured out they have to bleed the air out. Would they even be able to figure out it has to be in reverse to get the key out? THATS MY POINT! These cars require a relatively mechanically savy owner who knows these little details. They have never been and never will be a wise choice for the mechanically clueless unless they have a C900 specialist at their beck and call along with very deep pockets.
