At work we look at MTBF - mean time between failures, and MTTR, mean time to repair. A 16 year old C900 (like mine) may actually have a pretty good MTBF, and right now it's doing about as well as the 12 year old ford station wagon, about one no-go incident every 1 or 2 years. But if something does go wrong, MTTR comes in. If I'm in the middle of nowhere I'm a lot more likely to find Ford parts and someone who can put them in than I am to find a Saab parts and someone to install them. The Saab, however, will probably make it to 200,000 miles.
