and requires so much maintenance? I think they are beautifully reliable. Again, are we talking of a high mileage run down 900 with 175,000 miles?
The 16valve engine lasts beautifully..The transmission...if you shift the gearbox properly and do not abuse it by peforming stupid peels and burning rubber... again..beautifully reliable. It is a nice simpe box with quality synchros, nicely designed. What else is there?? the components are made by bosch and are sastifactory...
I do not mean to be pushy, I am just curious to find out what is so unreliable about classic 900s?
While I agree with you about some mechanics not wanting to work on the 900(mainly because of the engine placed backward making it harder to access the belts/crankshaft , or having to pull the engine to remove the transmission.) Personally, I like the design for the clutch can be removed without having to disconnect the engine. Other cars have quirks as well. The thought of having to remove a plastic inner wheel well shroud to change an alternator( saab 9000, Maxima, etc) does not seam that convenient to me. My friend's had to bring his 06 Maxima to a mechanic to change the headlight! The bumper has to be removed!
I lost count of how many I owned, and again....guess what I still drive??
You guessed it buddy:
Nine zero zero Turbo; the absolute best car Saab ever manufactured.
A crisp, shiny black 3 dr 900 SPG can stand next to any new car and still gets my nod.
