By now you probably have reached the end of what the AMM can fatten up the mixture.
As Saabnut states, the screw can be turned infinite but the resistance stops changing after so many turns. After that it is a matter of replacing the AMM.
As other state too, a sneaky vacuum leak somewhere can make the same effect so if and when that leak is found and fixed, the screw might have to be turned backwards again.
So adjusting AMM is not the proper way of covering up another problem but if everything else is in perfect shape, using the test plug, a volt meter and turning the screw clockwise until the meter is swinging between 0 and 12V might get the car through smog test and improve driveability.
