I think my leak originated from a wind shield seal. I resealed the gasket with some 3M all weather black sealant. I had also replaced all my door seals with new ones. My carpet was soaked as was the foam pad. When I pulled it all up there was rust all over the floor pans and the center tunnel. I scrapped up all the under coating that was loose then wire wheeled and ground out ALL the surface rust. What a job, must have been an 8 hour day. Once I got it down to the metal I wiped everything down with lacquer thinner and taped off the interior of the car. I then sprayed the metal with Eastwood rust encapsulator even though I have no rust now. After the encapsulator was dry I put down a layer of fiberglass over all the areas were I removed the undercoating which brought it back to level. I did not put fiberglass over the center tunnel.

After the fiberglass dried I sprayed over it with another coat of rust encapsulator. Then sprayed the black factory paint and then clear coated it! It took several weeks as I was only able to work on it during weekends. I then reassembled everything with donor mats from an '86 900. I could not find a decent set of the gray rubber/foam pads. The carpet is actually out of another 900 I found at the junkyard-$12!! and one bottle of Resolve heavy duty carpet cleaner! My original carpet was stained, had burn holes, and was basically trashed.

I am very pleased on how the whole project came out. For those who say they have a 'no rust' car I would check underneath your carpets. I am in CA where there are 'no rust' cars, right.

Mike, if you care to use the thermo tech mat I can send you some. I bought a 4' X 5' piece and only used a 2' X 3' section for the center tunnel. If anyone else out there wants to try it send me an e-mail.

Thanks!

Cliff
