SOS,
As many have surmised, solving your problems requires first having a good battery and charging system and it sounds like you'll soon have that covered. That in itself may cure your car. A loose Hall effect connector can make your engine die sporadically and your turbocharged 900 has it's Hall effect connector on the distributor. It wouldn't hurt to take a close look at that. If this was a non-turbo car the sensor would be behind the harmonic balancer suggesting a relationship to that issue (but this is a turbo car so disregard). You should also take a look at the wires connected to the ignition coil. The way they are routed sometimes causes a short to ground related to opening and closing the hood (which must be done to shake the battery). On a non-turbo car I can't imagine any connection between a bad harmonic balancer and your list of symptoms. Let us know what happens once the battery and charging system are all dialed in, I suspect that will solve these problems.
