I may have this wrong, but I think you don't want to remove the rust, other than the really loose stuff. If you remove the rust, the POR-15 (after Marine Clean & Metal Ready) will have NO RUST TO combine with, to make its ceramic-like finish. It does change existing rust thru chemical combination WITH the rust. I would consider going to a body shop of good repute, and consider having them replace the flattish area metal, then treat the stuff going up and over the console with the POR-15 system? I think the rusted away "plug" was excess baggage, and would replace it with fresh metal. And treat the rust from the bottom, also. Once again - I don't think you want to remove all the rust if you're willing to treat it properly and correctly. And don't get discouraged! I'm doing about the same type of recoveru right now on a Beryl Green '91 SPG. We've completed the left cortrol arm area, right control arm area, left door interior bottom rust, and the right door interior bottom rust. Noiw I'm removing all the removable exterior stuff, treating rust, and generally getting it ready to go for paint in mid-September (hopefully). Hopefully this is not your only mode of transportation!. Keep us posted, and free to ask more questions. Someone will probably give you an alternative that agrees with your ideas! Vern
