Did you source the leak? While it's apart I'd check the big rubber grommet where the shift shaft goes thru the firewall. The white padding under the heat diffuser tube is heat insulation so the catalytic converter doesn't melt the wiring. I think Vern's recommending something like Dynamat to replace the sound deadening coating that the rust has eroded. The 3/8ths undercarpet padding can also be obtained from an auto upholstery shop. It's that light gray stuff. I've scoured hundreds of wrecks and rarely find a decent driver's side under carpet pad. You might put a want ad in the TSN classified for the front carpet.
