1. Saab went to plastic in the mid 80's. My only engine loss was on my 83 at 305,000 miles. That car had it's metal valve replaced by the dealer before 100K miles. At 305k one of the nipples fell off on a hot day. The head cracked before I realized the high temp gauge was due to coolant loss not just the 100+ ambient temperature. So even the factory valves have a life span limit. You probably saw the post about someone contacting Scantech about their crappy valves.
