OK, so does that seem like a likely cause for the "frequency grumble"? I have been trying to read old posts, and commenters have indicated that a "vibration grumble" is likely inner drive joint, NOT cv joint. Then others have said it may be the wheel bearing.
So, I do see I have some issues ahead, looking for recommendations on how to test them. Some have indicated the eeuro EMPI axles are garbage, yet that would take care of the inner and cv in one blow... leaving only wheel bearing.
Alternatively, I could inspect, clean, and pack up the cv with a new boot and see if it quiets down (as cmyles indicates it may often be the case with OEM cv's, but mine has been grumbling for a while, so may be beyond this). But then I do the work twice after I find out it doesn't solve the grumble :-(
Last for now, I am guessing pressing in wheel bearings (if needed??) isn't easily done in my garage w/o a press, so I would need to get an indie involved. Is that the standard approach?
Thanks again for all the help. Any links to writeups on axle / cv / wheel bearing replacement appreciated.
