Robert - I also have a '93 900S, and it had the same problem. It's actually a very simple fix. Order a "Steering Column Bearing Collar" for about $6 from the site sponsor, disconnect the battery, wait about 30 minutes, remove air bag (2 torx screws from the back side - T25 iirc), gently pull air bag back to where you can unplug the wire (pulls straight away from bag, no twisting or turning). The rest is straight forward. One note of caution - make sure you put the wheel back on turned the same way it came off. I didn't pay attention, and had the wheel turned from straight - had to remove and replace it, turning it correctly this time. The steering shaft is splined, but not keyed.
