In my case, it unwound across the floor (utter stupidity on my part). I carefully put it back together, played with the steering wheel determining that it was about 5 full turns from far right to far left, and basically figured out to do what Anders described. Fortunately the unwinding did not damage it (as it appears yours was). What you've got going on seems a bit odd - usually, you get no horn at all when the thing breaks.
