Thanks Anders. I couldn't recall (has been 5 months) but it was about 2 turns and a tad more. There was a red tag with Deutsche/English attached to the cable right under the airbag. I did count the turns but suspect I pushed a bit TOO hard when I hit the limit (trying to be sure it was at the end, likely killed it to ground). From a quick chick of my Bentley wiring schematic for my 91, I'm almost certain the clockspring is dead and the rest is AOK.
I don't really want to spend $75 for another used CS, go thru the trouble to calibrate it only to have it also fail in a year and I'm back in the same boat. Since this are NLA, that is why I am planning to just pull the airbag and install an 89- column and wheel...hopefully I can find a nice leather SPG wheel, looks almost as nice as a MOMO.
